The Fabricant is a digital-only fashion house, founded in the Netherlands in 2018 by Kerry Murphy and Amber Jae Slooten, that designs couture existing only in digital form.,,,In 2019 it created and sold the first fashion NFT, Iridescence, for USD 9,500 in a collaboration with Dapper Labs.,
Iridescence was a one-of-a-kind digital outfit, traceable and tradeable on the blockchain and tailored virtually to its buyer. The Fabricant has since worked with brands including Tommy Hilfiger, Off-White, Google, H&M, Adidas, Napapijri, and Soorty, producing digital-only runway presentations and product visualizations in place of physical samples and photography.,In March 2024 it partnered with Maison Margiela to launch MetaTABI, a token-gated NFT collection tied to the house's Tabi boot that combined a limited physical edition with augmented-reality previews.
The Fabricant's DEEP series began in 2017 in collaboration with The Asimov Institute, using an algorithm trained on images from Paris Fashion Week to generate an early set of AI-designed, pixelated garments. Creative director Amber Jae Slooten led a 2023 revival of the series using Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, and Stable Diffusion to reinterpret the original seven looks with more detailed AI-generated designs. The Fabricant then collaborated with former European Space Agency chief scientist Bernard Foing on a project to send a piece from the DEEP collection to the Moon, envisioned as part of a MoonMars Museum with earth, lunar, and interstellar versions of the same artwork.
The Fabricant has also built a narrative it calls Wholeland, a play on 'Holland,' that began with an XXories collection of digital accessories and continued with Kapers, a set of headpieces blending traditional Dutch style with club culture that XXories owners could customize. Its Primal Rave collection, released in August 2023, extended the story with gender-neutral digital garments built in Unreal Engine that reinterpreted 17th-century Dutch dress alongside 1990s gabber rave aesthetics.
