supermetal $swag bosch, known as Supermetal Bosch, is a pseudonymous digital artist who trains generative adversarial networks on toy imagery to create collectible characters. In a January 2022 Twitter post, they coined the term “Avant NFT” to describe a wave of aesthetically self-aware NFT collections. Their characters often move from digital renders into physical objects such as porcelain figurines and 3D-printed collectibles.
Their 2021 series Super Metal Mons! used a GAN trained on thousands of images of small toys, including Japanese keshi miniatures, to generate new toy-like characters minted as NFTs on Ethereum. The GAN-generated Mons characters were later fabricated in cast porcelain and developed into a chess-like board game that can also be played online. For the series, Bosch fed images of cartoon monsters into the model as training data to study how character design works at the level of pattern and rule, producing creatures that look blurry, porous and still forming.
Little Swag World, a Solana collection where Mons characters reappear, was built by collaging fashion imagery and then using Stable Diffusion to smooth the collages into finished figures. Its references stretch from designers such as Rick Owens and Margiela to a Takashi Murakami plush toy and a headpiece drawn from Frank Frazetta's fantasy art. In 2025 Mons and Little Swag World were shown together in “One of Us Is Real and It's Not You” at Galerie Yeche Lange, alongside the collage work of Evil Biscuit. Both series use AI's tendency to smooth difference into unified wholes to comment on how desire and identity get constructed through collecting and trading characters.
