lulu xXX is a pseudonymous digital artist and visual effects professional who transforms photographs and film footage into AI-driven generative animations and portraits. Working as a CGI and 3D artist in the visual effects industry, she began experimenting with neural network-based artificial intelligence in 2015, using optical flow analysis to extract motion from footage and manipulate it with custom-built tools.,
Programming became part of her creative process in the early 2000s, when she began coding to access advanced visual-effects functions without paying for expensive software. She entered the cryptoart scene in 2020, minting her first NFT on Rarible before the platform had gained wide credibility, and has since tokenized work on KnownOrigin, MakersPlace, and Rarible.,In p(ii)tch (2021), a series of 100 NFTs, she fed footage from a selection of films into generative AI models to produce alphanumeric portraits of pop-culture figures such as Marilyn Monroe and Kurt Cobain, rendered with a three-dimensional, almost trapped-in-the-canvas realism.
For “A Celebration of the Woman”, a 2020 online exhibition organized by Kate Vass Galerie as part of its #womensupportingwomen initiative timed to the Vancouver Biennale, she presented Peacock Romance, a triptych reinterpreting the 1930 film Romance Sentimentale by Sergei Eisenstein and Grigori Aleksandrov.,Using AI to transform the film's black-and-white footage into a color floral animation, she extracted motion and shapes from the original frames to feed neural networks that generated the abstract sequences. The same year, her work was included in the group exhibition “De la tulipe à la crypto marguerite” at Avant Galerie Vossen in Paris. She was later featured among fifty artists in the book CRYPTO ART – Begins, selected by curator Eleonora Brizi.
Reflecting on her method, curator Eleonora Brizi wrote that “Lulu xXX's work always begins with a technical act like a new piece of code, a new algorithm. Then things get 100% artistic.”
