Javier Galán Rico is a transmedia artist and musician whose aesthetic identity formed in Barcelona, where professional training in 3D animation gave way to a self-taught, independent practice. Working with glitch and the “aesthetics of error” as a Dadaist tool, Galán Rico manipulates 3D software and code to break the artificiality of standard computer-generated imagery.
Since 2021 Galán Rico has folded this visual practice into digital art, fusing image and sound. Using decontextualization and cut-up techniques as narrative devices, the work draws symbolic connections between everyday reality and the dreamlike, producing what Galán Rico calls “digital phantasmagorias”. Work has been presented at “L'Alternativa” (CCCB) in Barcelona in 2019 and at the “Blaues Rauschen Festival” in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, in 2025.
The piece The Interzones originated in 2024 as part of a collective drop by the Analog Video Union collective and was later exhibited at RGBMTL in Montreal.The cyberpunk diptych Time Paradox was selected by FakeWhale's art market in April 2025. As part of the “ArtChains” curation, it was projected at the Limassol Stadium in Cyprus with support from the Tezos Foundation, objkt.com, and Itez.In The Spine, made after more than 20 years working in digital creation, hand-played electrified guitars provide a reverb-saturated soundtrack for a 3D scene inspired by the films of Andrei Tarkovsky.
