Guido Di Salle is a photographer and digital artist based in Toronto whose photographs, digital collage and abstract paintings draw on the high-contrast, glossy look of 1980s and 90s fashion magazines,,,most often built around images of women.A self-described “provocateur”,,he worked as a hairdresser for 22 years before turning to photography and, since 2021, has released work as crypto art.,
He first picked up a camera in 1982 but, by his own account, did not return to photography with serious intent until 33 years later.Self-taught,he has said his eye for imagery was shaped by the glossy fashion magazines his sisters collected in the 1980s, particularly the work of Mario Testino, Helmut Newton, Ellen von Unwerth and Terry Richardson.,His fashion photography was later published in GQ Italia and Playboy,and he has described his approach as walking “the fine line between art and fashion”.
In August 2021 he began showing work on SuperRareand released Sicilian Kiss as a free open edition on Ethereum, which drew more than 14,000 mints.Exchange Art credited the release with helping start the burn-and-redeem approach that later spread through Ethereum's open-edition market,and Di Salle has described it as “a demonstration of disruption”.He went on to release Solcilian Kiss, a timed open edition and his first work on the Solana blockchain, pairing it with Sicilian Kiss through a copper lattice motif meant to represent the connection between the two blockchains.He has also used generative code and artificial intelligence to rework photographs from his edition series into unique pieces released as a separate ERC-721 collection titled EXIF, each obtainable only by burning the specific edition tokens tied to it.
