Glitch Art Gallery is a curatorial project and online gallery for glitch art founded by the artist jonCates.,Drawing on Cates's decades-spanning personal collection, it presents work spanning early analog glitch art to current NFTs, and has organized exhibitions in Taipei, Taiwan and, in collaboration with Superchief Gallery, in Miami.,
The gallery's founder, jonCates, is an American artist, teacher, and curator born in 1973 in Iowa who is based in Taipei. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Illinois State University and a Master's degree in Media Art Histories from Donau-Universität Krems in Austria, and has worked in glitch art, a field he has helped pioneer since the 1990s, embracing digital errors and technological breakdowns as creative material. Cates developed the New Media Art curriculum at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and curated the exhibition “Chicago New Media 1973–1992” at Ars Electronica in Austria.Alongside Glitch Art Gallery, he founded the educational platform glitch.school.,
In January 2024 Glitch Art Gallery presented a digital art exhibition at Artgong in Taipei featuring 24 international digital artists, shown online alongside an in-person discussion event in the city's Datong District.Cates also curated three works by Tipi ᑎᐱ, 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖_✨, and tiv for “GLITCH MIAMI”, shown on a 65-foot LED wall at Superchief Gallery's SCOPE Art Show 2024 booth during Art Basel Miami, before restaging the same works as “MIAMI GLITCHES” at Project Space 110 in Taipei. In spring 2025 Glitch Art Gallery partnered with Project Space 110 on “Digital Art”, a group exhibition running from April 11 to June 1 that brought together artists from Taiwan, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, the United States, and South Africa.
