Central to this practice is Nierika, a Wixárika technology for visionary world-making that Frías uses as both method and worldview to create works functioning as portals, spells, maps and mirrors. Frías holds an MFA in Art Practice from UC Berkeley and an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Portland State University, and serves as Special Faculty in Performance at CalArts. Their work has been presented at institutions including the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, and Oregon Contemporary. In 2024 a piece of their work was selected for the Arch Lunar Art Archive and sent to the moon's surface aboard the Odysseus Lander spacecraft.¹

In 2023 Frías performed alongside Romi Morrison in “A Full Room”, a happening staged after closing hours at LACMA and initiated by Casey Reas and Lauren Lee McCarthy, in which the two performers responded to the prompt “What does social software mean to you?”² That year Frías also took part in a MOCA-curated group exhibition of performance art.³ Frías's 2017 piece Give US Home Spider, rituals inspired by Wixárika customs to address environmental racism, was included in “A Queer Arcana”, a 2026 group exhibition on queer spirituality at the Palm Springs Art Museum.⁴
