DominikG (German, b. 1993) is an illustrator, concept artist, and animator based in Dresden, Germany.Born Dominik Gümbel in Heidelberg,he studied Communication Design at HTWG Konstanz from 2012 to 2017before working across studios in Germany, Canada, and the United Kingdom.His work explores glitch aesthetics and the loss of control over the mind.
Between 2017 and 2021, he worked as an exhibition designer for Whitebox in Dresden. He then worked as a production designer for Nuare Studios in Kelowna, Canada, from 2020 to 2021. He worked as an illustrator and motion graphics designer for World of Women in Farnham, United Kingdom, from 2021 to 2023.Since 2024 he has worked as a freelance illustratorand co-founded the studio Gooey Goose GbR.
Ereignishorizont, created with Transient Lab for the third installment of the “Transient Vision” exhibition, is an interactive work that fragments into twenty-four illustrations, each portraying a facet of human grief.In Gedankenarchiv, he explores the fragility of the mind, depicting how a traumatic memory is buried and occasionally resurfaces to disrupt a carefully maintained exterior calm. DominikG has described struggling with aphantasia, the inability to visualize mental images, which leads him to work from dense reference collections rather than imagination alone. In March 2024 he released the collection Astralympics on the Stacks platform through Transient Labs.
