CROSSLUCID is a Berlin-based artist duo founded in 2018 by Sylwana Zybura and Tomas Toth, working across photography, digital art and gaming to explore post-humanism and the shifting nature of identity in a networked world.,,The pair met in London in 2014 and collaborated on commercial projects before moving into art rooted in ideas about how technology reshapes the self.
Their first publication, Landscapes Between Eternities (2018), grew into Landscapes, a 2021 series of GAN-generated images shown at Office Impart, Berlin, in 2024.,Their early short film Primer (2018) screened at Outfest Los Angeles and the Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival.CROSSLUCID's practice returns to recurring themes of the self as a network, intimacy within the digital sphere, and humanity's relationship with technology as a symbiotic biosphere, explored through the project S(t)imulation.Zone, shown in the exhibition “SWIPE RIGHT! Data, Dating, Desire”.
In 2023 CROSSLUCID created Dwellers Between the Waters, an AI-driven film and multi-channel installation exploring trauma, memory and healing, made with scholar Oxi Peng and musician Sayaka Botanic. It was staged as a solo exhibition at Expanded.Art, Berlin, curated by Anika Meier, and later installed at the MQ ART BOX at MuseumsQuartier Wien during Vienna Art Week, in collaboration with artist Natalia Sykorova.The work was also shown in the Shanghai Architecture Biennale's MetaCity exhibition, curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Venus Lau,and in “Other Intelligences” at HEK Basel.
CROSSLUCID contributed The Ocean Has Never Been Binary ~ Oceanic Whispers to “Down the Silicon Meadow”, a 2025 group exhibition at Office Impart and common.garden exploring the self as a network within a shared biosphere.At the Digital Art Mile in Basel, CROSSLUCID made new work using one of the few operational Quantel Paintbox systems for the “Paintboxed” exhibition curated by Georg Bak.In 2025 CROSSLUCID unveiled The Way of Flowers at Office Impart, Berlin, connecting AI-generated floral compositions, inspired by Karl Blossfeldt's plant photography,to blockchain-registered conservation funding across six bioregions.Collectors called Seed Stewards buy digital seeds that evolve with contributions to biodiversity projects curated by ArtEcology, and the show included a text of speculative fiction by Chen Qiufan.CROSSLUCID's AI-voice piece Synthetic Mournings was shown in the Tides of Loss room of the exhibition “You Were Never Solid”, its AI-generated voices mourning both human trauma and algorithmic memory.The duo held a residency with Gazelli Art House's digital programme GAZELL.iO in 2023and continued to show work in the gallery's Art Dubai Digital selections.
