Crouwers studied painting at AKV St. Joost in Den Bosch and earned a master of fine arts at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam in 2001, before studying Film Studies and Visual Culture at the University of Antwerp in 2004 and 2005.¹ She has pursued a PhD in Arts at LUCA School of Arts and KU Leuven in Brussels since 2019 through the research project Summoning a Forest, which examines ecological collapse and digital mediation through the case of a family forest destroyed by a spruce bark beetle outbreak.³ The project produced Mistakes. The Artist Talk, a film made during the 2020 pandemic lockdown as a response to the crisis, and its 2022 sequel NGMI, which processes post-pandemic disappointment through a series of chapters blending information, absurdity and speculation.⁴ The film also gave its title to her solo exhibition “NGMI” at Collectie De.Groen in Arnhem in 2022.^1,4

Since 2020 she has developed Tools, an ongoing project of digitally animated films, video loops, augmented reality sculptures and 3D scans that connects prehistoric artefacts to contemporary digital technology, drawing on art historian George Kubler's description of objects as forming a “visible portrait of collective identity”. Tools (v003), a 3D-scanned sculpture combining a Neolithic stone tool, a cassowary bone chisel and a computer mouse from her studio, was minted on Tezos in January 2025.⁵ It was shown that year in “Down the Silicon Meadow”, a group exhibition curated by Diane Drubay and Anne Schwanz that brought seven artists together online and at OFFICE IMPART in Berlin to explore coexistence between nature and technology.⁶ In 2023 she was paired with the poet Victoria Chang for “FeralVerse”, an exhibition curated by theVERSEverse for Feral File exploring the interplay between words and images.⁷ She has also taken part in Unsigned, a collection of 100 signatures by women and non-binary artists made by Operator and Anika Meier to counter the historical devaluation of women's signed artwork.²
